She was raised, for a time, in Valhalla and trained with all the slain warriors. Great Warriors like Egil Skallagrimsson, Lagertha the Shieldmaiden , Ragnar Lothbrok, Sigurd the dragon slayer, and even her own grandfather King Harald Finehair, the first king of Norway. She was even able to learn a great deal from Odin, specifically how to read runes. She learned all she could because she knew when she turned 13 she would be forced out of Valhalla, for she was neither a god nor one of the slain. Before leaving the great golden hall, Odin bestowed Þyri the Shield of Valhalla, which is said to be so strong that it will never break. Always protecting its carrier. Even the Goddess Idunn gifted her with a satchel of golden apples. The same golden apples that give the Gods their youth and immortality.
Once on Midgard, Þyri seeks out her father and joins him on his raids of England, Scotland, and around the Irish Sea. She gained reputation as a fierce and merciless shieldmaiden. It was a reputation that fast matched her fathers.
With an unquenchable thirst for adventure, Þyri joined a raiding band of Vikings sailing to find new lands and riches. Bloodaxe, now King of Northumbria and Norway, showed his support and encouragement by provisioning the voyage. He knew she was favored by the gods and was certain she would gain fame and glory.
