The two became infamous among the criminal underground for their exploits, labeled as “fingersmiths” for their assumed deft and clever hands. But no one, not even the other thieves, knew who they were. In fact, early rumors suggested they weren’t people at all, but shadow sorcery. The sisters quickly earned the name “gatos oscuros” and their exploits grew, along with their notoriety. Less than a year later, it was said that if there was a high profile mark, Gatos Oscuros almost certainly did the job. According to the underground, a client would hang a dead rat in an alley and would find themselves alone speaking with whispers in the wind shortly after. It wasn’t long before their rivals felt threatened, and so a contract was made on their lives. Days later a man – presumably the assassin – was found hung above the door of the rival with a dead rat in his mouth. A single knife in his back was determined to be the cause of death, and on that blade was a note. “We take with ease from fools to play, but know you this- all men are prey.” Asra took to the task like a birthright, furthering their legend and creating something of an underworld empire. None knew them, yet many worked for them, or so they believed.

The sisters’ kills became artwork. No blood, no signs of struggle, no poison. Just death, ruled natural. A horrifying scene that drove those closest to the target mad. No job was out of reach, and no contract ever broken. Asra made the first kill, we later learned, but Siufer did not take long to also follow in Asra’s footsteps. They were 13 years old when they issued the warning. In merely 2 years, they built their criminal empire that would rule the city for 200 more. Having proved themselves, the goddess Ishtar visited the sisters to bestow ancient magics in a quickening. It was then that Ishtar also provided insight into what happened that fateful night when the sisters were left with nothing. “You were not the only ones to survive. Seek her in the infinite woods, and learn of what was.” From that moment, Asra knew she must seek this third survivor to learn what had happened to their family, and who she must kill to avenge them.
