Blue’s Mission

So it was...

This sea was unfamiliar to Blue. Colder and darker than her home, and much, much deeper. She was sure these lightless depths would have rattled even Nessie, but it was so dangerous these days to travel near the surface. It was a long and arduous journey to cross the world to what her newfound crewmates were calling the ‘Pacific,’ one she’d had to take on alone. Nessie had protested, naturally, but they had agreed it was not safe for the dragoness. The trading companies had anted up their search for sea dragons with unrivaled fervor and none were willing to risk the recapture of their beloved friend.

So, Blue ventured alone to the Pacific to investigate yet another threat to the ancient creatures of the sea. Spanish and Dutch arrival had disturbed those old gods. Both Blue and Nessie had felt it. She pled with their captain to take their full force, but there were obligations and battles to be won that kept him tied to their own side of the world. Blue herself was not deterred, and had sent herself on her own mission. In the longer hours of her journey, when her determination would wane, she found herself missing them terribly. The songs and camaraderie and feeling of family had grown something soft in her. The many mythological beings of the sea had become solitary for safety, but with the crew, she and Nessie did not have to worry about such things.

In the Pacific, things were familiar and not, all at the same time. There were still reefs and stretches of white sand beaches. Squalls and deep, cold currents. But many of the islands here were born from fire and chaos, rocks black and jagged as they reached up from the bed of the sea. Blue’s investigations took her to many different ones. Some were so reminiscent of her Caribbean, it made her soul ache with longing for home. Others were so vastly different, she wondered how she would ever complete her goals. Months turned into years as she studied the trade routes of the Dutch and Spanish, learning their movements and motives. She became entrenched; growing bolder in her solo missions to rescue the creatures of the Pacific. Blue rallied with them often, joining their fights and learning new ways to sabotage ships.

Yet, her longing for home always resided in her heart. Even as she came to love these strange new mountains and grew familiar with these new seas, she always longed for home and her oldest friend— Nessie. This is what kept her strong in moments of doubt; when her and her new comrades found themselves between a rock and a hard place. Always, Blue managed to find victory when she kept her crew in her heart.

Finally, there was a long spell of quiet. The mythical creatures of the Pacific had established safe routes and places to hide. The Spanish ships had run into more immediate problems as their rule began to stretch thin. The need for Blue’s aid was beginning to wane…and that’s when the letter came. A message, carried over the same far and treacherous territory that Blue had crossed so long ago, now being delivered to her. From her beloved friend Nessie, the herald for her return. There were new members to meet and new ports to raid!

It was time for the siren to come home.
